COVID-19 Update – 19th March 2020 at 15:00pm

Like many Adult and Community Learning Providers we have been following the guidance from Government and Public Health England. As you will be aware, the Government has announced a move to stop all but essential contact with others, a closure of schools, further education and nurseries from 20th March 2020 and to work from home where possible due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

With this in mind, we are currently implementing a number of changes to our provision of adult and community learning courses.

Our centres will close from 5pm on Friday 20th March 2020 with only our Norham Adult Learning Centre remaining open to support vulnerable learners. We are also taking a number of actions to reduce face to face contact with learners. This includes:

  • Moving learning to online and remote learning for adult learning courses and apprenticeship training
  • Suspending all classroom learning, except for those classed as vulnerable groups

For those on an apprenticeship, it is business as usual for the moment, except that all workshops, teaching and assessment will be online. If the company that you work for temporarily shuts down, we are able to extend end dates to support this break in learning. Please make contact with your assessor to discuss this further.

Those students enrolled on a full Distance Learning course will continue as normal.

If you are enrolled on a community learning or family learning course, including foreign language classes, then your course will end this week until further notice. In these cases, we will be contacting learners already enrolled on courses to offer the option to retain their booking for future course dates in 2020-21 or receive a refund.

We have received guidance that exams due to take place this summer have been suspended and we are awaiting further advice on alternative arrangements.

We understand that you may have lots of questions, but I am sure you can understand that the Service is having to take decisions and plan accordingly based on current guidance. When we have more information, we will provide further communication. In the meantime, we do appreciate your patience and understanding.

Our telephone lines and e-mail contact remain open and you can contact us if you have any queries.

We can assist you if you wish to discuss options for learning (including online and distance learning) during periods of staying at home. We also have a team of Advisers who can support you to find or retain employment if you have been affected by the current situation.
