Six learners have started on a study programme working in partnership with Barnardos (Employment and Skills North East). The learners are receiving mentor engagement from Phoenix Detached Youth Work project to enhance their life chances and help challenge some of the personal issues they have.
This programme is also supported by a local construction firm, Carney construction who are delivering additional courses to enhance the learner’s skills, awareness and employability in the sector. The courses include: health and safety awareness, manual handling, asbestos awareness, safe working at height and abrasive wheels.
Learners on this programme will have the opportunity to achieve a CSCS card which will allow them to work on a building site meeting health and safety regulations and at the end of the programme will have achieved a construction qualification at level 1.
