Enrolment Requirements

You must attend a Childminder Briefing session before attending this course. Please read the ‘What else do I need to know?’ section below.

What will I learn on this course?

    This course prepares you for working with children in your own home. You must complete it before you can register as a childminder with Ofsted. You will learn about:
     The role of Ofsted and legislation regarding the Early Years
     The Early Years Foundation Stage and the importance of play
     Working with parents and carers
     Child behaviour and development
     Running your own business and the required paperwork.

Assessment and Awarding Body: non-accredited

You will complete a reflective diary, policies and procedures and other paperwork as part of the online course assessment. Your tutor will guide and support you in this.


You will be expected to attend the first session and keep in touch with your tutor.

What else do I need to know?

This course is delivered flexibly through an e-portfolio. There is a 3 hour session to go through this and 1-1 support is available from your tutor. It is expected that this course will take 8 weeks to complete, however you can work more quickly if you wish.
You need to attend a briefing session prior to this course. Please call Deborah Knowles on (0191) 643 8523 to book a place.
This session will prepare you for the Introduction to Childminding. You will also have to obtain a Paediatric First Aid certificate before you can register as a childminder.

What could I do next?

You can progress on to qualifications in child care.
