All learners must attend a pre-course assessment session. Following this you will be
signposted to a one-year GCSE intensive course or a Functional Skills course.
A fee will apply for those with a GCSE grade C or above.
What will I learn on this course?
The GCSE course will prepare you for AQA GCSE Mathematics at Foundation level. It covers the following topics:
Using and applying mathematics
Number and algebra
Shape, space and measures
Assessment and Awarding Body: AQA
You will be expected to take the GCSE Maths exams (calculator and non-calculator). There are three exams, one non-calculator and two calculator exams The dates for these are 21 May 2019, 6 June 2019 and 11 June 2019, all starting at 9:30am. Please note they will be held at: The Langdale Centre, Langdale Gardens, Howdon, NE28 0HG.
Please do not enrol if you do not wish to sit the exam.
In order that you will be able to successfully complete your qualification it is essential that you attend 90% of the taught sessions. Due to the intensive demands of the syllabus it is unlikely that topics can be covered again, so please think carefully before enrolling on this course if you have work or other commitments that may interfere with your attendance. You will be expected to attend at least one additional tutorial session per term.
What else do I need to know?
Work will be set by your tutor. If you wish to succeed on this course it is essential that this work is completed every week. The amount of time you will need to spend working at home will vary; however you will need to do an average of three hours a week.
You will need to purchase a scientific calculator, ruler, protractor and compass (approximate total cost £10). Please do not buy them before the course starts as advice will be given at the first session.
