German Beginners Term 1, 2 & 3

Enrolment Requirements
This course is for absolute beginners. The emphasis will be on speaking and using the language. Writing tasks will be available for those who find this helpful.
What will I learn on this course?

Over a period of three terms, you will learn and use simple words and phrases to be able to get by in everyday situations abroad. The course will cover the following topics:
Introducing self and family/friends/colleagues
Numbers and colours
Ordering food and drink and paying
Booking accommodation
Asking for and giving directions
Shopping for food, clothes and important holiday items
Dealing with transport
Additional topics by student request or need.
Lessons will be built around a course book for you to refer to back at home. New language will be presented with colourful pictures on the interactive whiteboard. You will have plenty of opportunities for practising speaking and listening through role-play, pair work, CDs etc. A choice of tasks will be given (from easy to more challenging), so that there will be suitable activities for all abilities. You will also be able to submit additional work and have this handed back with correction advice and feedback.
Assessment and Awarding Body: non-accredited
Activities and work will be assessed by your tutor.
Attendance?
You will be expected to attend every week. If you cannot attend, you will be set work to ensure you meet your learning outcomes.
What else do I need to know?
You will be given work to do at home and, to get the most out of your course, you will need to
practise regularly – 10 or 15 minutes each day is best. You will also have opportunity to submit
individual additional work to your tutor and have it corrected.
What could I do next?
You may wish to carry onto German Improvers or try a different language such as Spanish or
French.
