Level 2 Certificate in Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings
You should be at least 16 years old.
You will need a DBS clearance.
You must have attended an Advice and Guidance session.
What will I learn on this course?
The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings covers a range of key subject areas that provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to care for and educate children aged between 0 and 11 years 11 months old. Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to progress onto Level 3 qualifications across a number of sectors including Early Years Educator sector, the Supporting Teaching and Learning sector and the Children and Young People sector. Placements are required for achievement of this qualification. You will need to be working or volunteering with children aged 0 – 11 years 11 months in a placement for 200 hours as recommended by NCFE CACHE.
Assessment and Awarding Body: NCFE/CACHE
You will complete an e portfolio of evidence using the Onefile system which will hold all assessments and evidence. You will be assessed using a variety of methods, such as:
Observations of you working with children
A Professional Skills Record
A synoptic short answer examination.
Please note that you will need access to a computer, Ipad, tablet or smart phone to complete your tasks.
90% minimum attendance.
What else do I need to know?
Approximately 12-15 months. There will be monthly taught sessions where you will be provided with the underpinning knowledge. You will also receive regular individual tutorials with your tutor. You also need to volunteer in an appropriate setting for a minimum of 1 day every week.
On the course you will cover topics such as play and learning, nutrition, the role of the childcare practitioner, child development and many more. There are 6 mandatory units in total. In addition you will also need to complete a Professional Skills Record and a synoptic short answer examination at the end of the qualification. Although there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification you will need to have ICT skills and we recommend that all learners work towards Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths.
