It has been a very busy few weeks to the end of term with the Employment and Skills ‘Schools into Work’ programme.
The incoming Year 9 pupils at Monkseaton High School took part in a Schools into Work enterprise morning as part of their transition to Monkseaton High School in September. Employers included Barclays and Tesco Bank and support from the Connexions service where the Business Ambassadors supported students setting up a mini business for production and trading. As part of the morning students were asked to assign themselves a set job role, which they then had to lead on specific related tasks over the course of the morning. Employers had a prominent role, not just for the trading aspect of the day, but also to help students better understand the job roles that they have chosen with individual Business Ambassadors leading more detailed briefings on specific job role and tasks. The opportunity to “Ask the Business Ambassador” was included in the day and feedback from both employers and pupils was very positive “Try to motivate my friends in striving to achieve, in being resilient and respectful towards others” (Year 8 pupil) “Great, uplifting day” (Employer).
