Our Connexions team organised an information event for parents and carers of young people with autism in years 11, 12 and 13 at the Melrose Centre (linked to Longbenton High School). This highly successful event took place on the evening of Thursday 15 November and was supported by Melrose staff.
Representatives from Tyne Coast College, Newcastle College, North Tyneside Adult Learning and Project Choice NHS Internship gave presentations about the range of potential post 16 options, and progression routes. The event was extremely well supported; 8 of the 11 students had at least one parent/carer in attendance.
Parents were given a wide range of information and the opportunity to discuss courses and support for their young people. This will be followed up by one to one interventions with a Connexions Adviser to consider next steps and an individual plan for each student.
If you would like anymore information on post 16 routes please contact our connections team on 0191 643 2288.
